Who AM I?
Alexander Polinskiy, born in 2008 in Hamburg, is an internationally active composer and pianist. From early childhood, he showed great enthusiasm and love for music and began playing the violin and piano participating in various concerts, competitions, and festivals. At the age of seven, he performed for the first time in the grand hall of the Laeiszhalle in Hamburg as a prizewinner of the Hamburg Instrumental Competition.
Polinskiy’s engagement with composition began at the age of eleven when he started taking lessons with Leon Gurvitch. Later he became a junior composition student at the UdK Berlin where he has been studying with Leah Muir and Tom Rojo Poller.
The young musician will continue his studies at the UdK as a bachelor student under the supervision of Irene Galindo-Quero.
Alexander Polinskiy is a laureate of multiple national youth competitions such as Jugend Komponiert, Jugend Musiziert and the Halberstadt Orchestra Workshop as well as the second prizewinner of the international Joseph Dorfman Composition Competition.
Apart from competitions, the musician has premiered many of his works cooperating with symphony orchestras, ensembles and highly esteemed soloists — some highlights include the premiere of his piece “Goodbye, Maestro!” in New York City, contracts with the Harz Symphony Orchestra and the Sorbian National Ensemble Bautzen, and the recording of his works for radio broadcast. Polinskiy’s music has been thematised in NDR, MDR, SZ, and nmz — publications.
The composer upholds a special interest for Jewish musical tradition, the connections between literature and composition, and multimedial artworks in general.
Outside of the musical field, Alexander can be described as passionate reader, ardent tourist and a person deeply interested in history.
